The 5 Rules of Fertility Diet

Rule # 1: Favor food with a low glycemic index because good fertility requires an improvement in insulin sensitivity. Eat dark chocolate, whole grains, pulses, red fruits …

Rule 2: Good news: fat is good because it promotes fertility! It is enough to favor the polyunsaturated fats and to improve the ratio Omega 3 and Omega 6 by consuming rapeseed oil and fatty fish.

Rule # 3: Consuming hard vegetables such as lentils, peas and beans would help fight overweight and thus improve fertility.

Rule 4: Choose whole-milk dairy products with 0% fatty yogurt … Whole milk products would offer some protection against ovulatory infertility.

Rule 5: The consumption of vitamin B9 (or folic acid) would decrease the risk of prematurity.
Although diet plays a significant role in the prevention of infertility, it is not a substitute for doctor consultation or appropriate medical treatment.

DHEA to fight infertility?

The “youth” hormone, DHEA, could have a significant positive influence on women with fertility problems. According to a study by Prof. Adrian Shulman of the Sackler Faculty of Medicine at Tel Aviv University in Israel, a treatment for infertility supplemented with DHEA intake would increase the chances of a child. The study was recently published in the journal of the Israeli Association of Fertility, Ayala.

The study focused on two groups, one receiving “basic” treatment to fight infertility, the other receiving the same treatment with a daily dose of DHEA. The hormone was given to the latter group for 40 days before initiation of infertility treatment and lasted up to five months.

Not only did the researchers find that women taking in addition to DHEA were more likely to become pregnant, but in addition their pregnancy and delivery were better than those in the first group.
If the effect of DHEA on fertility seems to have been proven, Prof. Adrian Shulman acknowledges however not knowing how this hormone acts on the organism of these women.
